What did Colorado SB22-035 change?
For eligible independent commercial-vehicle operators, Colorado law defines qualifying “similar coverage” using a minimum aggregate policy limit of $1.5 million, together with the statute’s other requirements.
Does Colorado 1099 Shield replace Workers’ Compensation?
No. The Plan Document expressly states that the program does not provide Workers’ Compensation coverage and does not satisfy a requirement for Workers’ Compensation insurance.
Is the program “approved” by the State of Colorado?
Colorado does not endorse a specific private program on this page. The state statute sets a $1.5M minimum aggregate benchmark for qualifying occupational accident coverage for eligible independent commercial-vehicle operators. Colorado 1099 Shield provides that numeric limit, subject to all other legal, eligibility and plan requirements.
What does “combined single limit and aggregate” mean?
Under this plan, $1.5M is the combined single limit for any one covered accident and also the aggregate. The Plan Document controls how benefits apply, coordinate and accumulate.
Who starts the application?
The hiring business or account owner starts by completing the Account Application. The owner then receives the company’s unique participant enrollment link by email and forwards it to eligible 1099 contractors.
Where does an individual contractor apply?
Through the unique participant link sent by the hiring business after the Account Application is submitted. The company name and requested effective date are already locked into that link, so the participant is matched automatically to the correct account.
How fast can coverage bind?
After complete account and participant applications, eligible coverage can often bind in hours rather than days. Actual timing is subject to eligibility, approval, effective-date requirements and receipt of the required contribution.
Can non-trucking 1099 contractors enroll?
The program may be available to approved 1099 classes in healthcare, IT, professional services, last-mile delivery, installation and other fields. The Colorado statutory benchmark discussed here applies specifically to eligible independent commercial-vehicle operators.
How is the weekly disability benefit calculated?
The weekly benefit is the lesser of 70% of Average Weekly Earnings or the plan maximum of $1,000, subject to the waiting period, eligibility and all Plan Document provisions.
